MetLife - Dental Coverage
Dental health is an essential part of overall wellness. Gates offers two dental plan options through MetLife: a base plan (Dental Plan 1) and a buy-up plan (Dental Plan 2) with a higher annual maximum. Both Dental PPO plans provide access to a large network of dentists, and—just like our medical plans—you can save money by using in-network providers.

VSP - Vision and Hearing Coverage
Regular eye exams are an important part of overall health. Gates provides optional comprehensive vision coverage through Vision Service Plan (VSP). VSP provides a benefit for exams and materials on a yearly basis. You have the freedom to choose any vision provider, but the plan generally pays better benefits when you receive care from VSP network providers.
OptumRx - Prescription Coverage
If you enroll in a Gates medical plan, your prescription drug coverage will automatically be provided through OptumRx. This pharmacy program includes utilization management tools designed to ensure quality, safety, and cost control for your prescriptions.

MetLife - Critical Illness
MetLife Critical Illness Insurance provides a lump-sum payment if you are diagnosed with a covered critical illness. This benefit complements your medical coverage and helps offset out-of-pocket expenses such as mortgage payments, college tuition, household assistance, or treatments not covered by your health plan. Payments are made directly to you, giving you the flexibility to use the funds as needed—regardless of what your medical insurance covers.
MetLife - Accident Insurance
Accident Insurance provides financial protection for off-the-job accidental injuries, helping cover out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copayments, and non-covered medical services. Benefits are paid directly to you—regardless of what your medical plan covers—so you can use the funds however you choose.
MetLife - Hospital Indemnity
MetLife Hospital Indemnity Insurance provides a lump-sum payment if you or a covered family member is hospitalized. This benefit is paid directly to you—regardless of what your medical plan covers—giving you the flexibility to use the funds however you choose.
The Hartford - Life and Accidental Death Insurance
To help protect you and your family from the financial impact of death or serious injury, Gates provides all eligible employees with Basic Life Insurance and Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at no cost. You also have the option to purchase supplemental life and AD&D insurance for yourself and your dependents.
The Hartford – Disability Coverage
A disabling injury or illness can happen unexpectedly and may last days, weeks, or even months. To provide financial protection, Gates offers all eligible employees Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage at no cost. You also have the option to purchase additional LTD coverage during open enrollment to increase your benefit amount through the buy-up LTD option.
Metlife Legal
You can choose to purchase legal advice and services through MetLife Legal Plans, which provides access to a national network of over 10,000 attorneys. The plan covers attorney fees for a wide range of legal services.
